Six Sentence Sunday – My Life as a Dead Man

I have no clue if this is something that is allowed by Six Sentence Sunday or not, but I decided to include a snippet of one of the Harry Potter fanfiction pieces I finished up this week. I’ve been working on it quite a bit so far, so I wanted to share a snippet! This piece is for the LJ Big Bang: Zombie Bang so it won’t be viewable until that community goes live with posts.

Setup: Regulus is at the bottom of a watery pit full of inferi, now being an inferi himself. He’s talking about how much fun it is to be dead here and what he has to look forward to.

Of course my kin and I are not really dead, not in the traditional sense at least. All of us are kind of trapped down here, like a prison block except without the ability to walk in circles or spit in the guards’ faces. We can’t even look at each other much, though occasionally someone’s body will land face-down, and then it’s “Sorry but it looks like I’ll be staring at your rotting crotch for the next decade or so.” It’s not exactly the best way to make friends.

The funny part, the big kicker out of this entire scenario, is that unlike most of these dead slobs in here I know what we are. And I probably could have gotten rid of it if I had known, and had been prepared for the numbers my house elf and I would face.

Be sure to drop by Six Sentence Sunday to see what other juicy teasers have been posted!

Stories with Lucius and Regulus

So glad to have my Harry Potter Big Bang’s done – at least the rough draft stage. Now I just need to get them edited and spruced up a bit for posting at the beginning of October. I think I’m still in shock that my Lucius Big Bang ended up being a hefty 35k in length, and the short but fun Zombie Bang was 5k.

If you’re curious about the Bangs I wrote for, or the summaries, here’s a quick run-down.

Summary: Regulus Black discusses life as an inferi, living with his new deadbeat neighbors, and then gets a surprise visit from mister tall, dark, and reptilian himself. Apparently Voldemort wasn’t quite finished with him, even though he is technically dead now.

Summary: The time is before the Prophecy, and a young Lucius Malfoy is sent to explore the disappearance of a Death Eater family. When he comes across their bodies, he calls on Severus to assist him. Together they have to figure out the mystery behind the murder, and deal with the revelation of the Prophecy – and how Lucius and Narcissa’s son might be involved.

Couldn’t Put Him Back Together Again

Whew, that was a short – but extremely FUN piece! Turned out to be around 5.5k words and a bunch of gore on top of that. Regulus’ voice is certainly unorthodox for him, but if he’s Sirius’ brother, I imagine the guy had to have a sense of humor. And true, he wasn’t entirely a ‘good guy’ in the books, but in the end I think everyone agrees that he turned out to be better than folks gave him credit for. I just like to think he was a better person for a longer amount of time.

Piece by piece, limb by limb, Regulus gets put together again. Though not quite in the best way. His “saviors” aren’t exactly world-renowned surgeons or anything, and they rely on magic to do the work. Which is great, but you still need a basic understanding of anatomy. Poor ol’ Reggie!

My Only Secret

Amazed that I got my daily word count completely finished over lunch. This means I’ll have the rest of the day to goof off and do whatever I want. Though writing for me isn’t too much of a chore. 😉

Regulus gets to have a few “words” with the Dark Lord, and even gets a chance to freak out Bellatrix too. He’s having way too much fun as a corpse here. It’s a good thing Voldemort might take away his fun time soon.

A Conductor of the Dead

I started up my piece for my Zombie Bang, and if you’ve been reading my Twitter feed you’ll notice that Regulus has grown to have a rather amusing voice. This is all being done in first person past perspective, and Regulus is so channeling a gay twenties gangster in my head. I had no idea he was going to turn out this way, I promise! But since I ended up deciding he was going to be a gay character back in Short of a Dark Lord, I decided that I may as well roll with it for this short one-shot piece. Reading the other long fic really has no bearing on this one, it’s just going to turn out to be a cute complement.

Regulus talks about his “final trip to the soup” and how he and his gang of “slobs” have to entertain themselves now. It’s not the prettiest picture in the world, but if you have a flair for morbid humor, this will be right up your alley! Oh yeah, and Bella got decidedly creepier as she got older.
