The Pram

Last year I went through and read the entire Amazon Originals Creature Feature horror series which they featured for Halloween 2023. These stories included some big name horror authors, several of whom I haven’t gotten the chance to read before. So I thought this would be a fun collection to go through!
This story featured Will and Marianne who are moving to the country after suffering a traumatic miscarriage followed by coming down with Covid. What starts off as small town quirks quickly takes a darker turn as Will becomes obsessive, defensive, and protective of the old moldy pram.
This story really drew me in! I felt like I knew Will and Marianne and understood their struggles. The place they moved to seemed suspicious, but I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. Silly of me considering this is a horror story haha.
I loved the concept of the pram itself and the path with the canopy of trees like a birth canal. Honestly this setup was so good, but then the ending came along. Not only was it sudden, but it didn’t make a lot of sense to me. I read the ending a few times to try to understand it, but I feel like more could have been done to close out this story.
Overall, I only dropped a star on this one because of that clearly rushed ending. If this hadn’t been such a short piece, I could see this being a really creepy full length novel.
Still not a bad start for this collection!
