Camp NaNo Complete!

Time for a celebration! I just finished up my Camp NaNo word count! At the beginning of this month I had two book WIPs that needed much attention, and now I’ve finished one book, almost finished the other book, finished a short story, and started another short story in the process. What can I say, I need writing distractions sometimes when I’m doing a NaNo?

I would go out and get a drink to celebrate, but I was already celebrating earlier today. My sister and her boyfriend of over five years went to the Magistrate Court today and made it official. Parents and siblings on both sides were there, cheering them on the whole time even when my excited sister stumbled over her wedding vows… twice. 🙂 It was beautiful though, and I couldn’t be prouder for them. We’re having the big wedding bash next year (on the same date of course), and although I’m not the maid of honor, you can bet I’ll be a wedding planning fool come this time next year. I’ve only ever been to one wedding in my life, so the experience should be… interesting.

On another note, I’m not sure what I’ll be posting about up here now that Camp NaNo is over with. Maybe I’ll finally post those pictures from the progress we made on our back yard weeks ago. Complete with the numerous Tarzan vines. 🙂

Word metrics!

Project: Secrets of Leekston

Summary: Leekston is an unassumingly quiet southern town, but it hides many secrets. An unusual government entity studies the supernatural activity in the area, but for what purpose? A crazy scientist runs a research lab of particular patients, and his daughter may pay the price for the people he’s maimed. Six years after the incident at the Kayak Hills subdivision, sixteen year-old Suzie Daper once again must protect her family, this time from a bloodthirsty werewolf pack bent on destroying anyone standing in the way of their vengeance.

Progress in Novel: As you can probably guess, all this progress wasn’t made in a day. This has been over the past few days, I just never really had enough to make a decent jump in my Camp NaNo stats until today, hence the delayed update. The story isn’t quite over yet, but probably will weigh in under 110k I imagine. I’m going through and writing the other perspective of a battle scene I wrote originally. The two strands of storyline will collide, but I want to make sure I have a firm grasp on what led up to the final meeting before I tackle that bit.

Project: New in Town Themed entry for Batfic Contest

Summary: Harvey wakes after his fall to find himself in the care of a red-haired woman with a penchant for plants. She seems nice enough at first, but once Harvey realizes she has more than his best interests in mind he begins to panic. When she mentions they have a dinner date with a few friends, Harvey knows this can only end poorly.

Waiting patiently for TDKR… sure, right

So I’ve been on a big Batman kick lately. I’ve been really looking forward to the next film, and looking for whatever I can find to hold me over until the movies comes out this time next month. It’s the final part of the three-part series, and I have big hopes for it. Bane will be amazing, I’m sure, and even if one of my favorite villains doesn’t make an appearance, I’m sure Bane will keep things interesting. He’s good about that after all.

I was thinking about going back and reading through Knightfall again just to refresh my memory of Bane and his various henchmen, but I think I’ll wait until after the movie. I don’t want to get my hopes up too high after all. Instead here is some amazing Joker dub-step that my sister found earlier today. The voice overs are great, and this should be epic driving music for the week!

As far as writing goes, I’m plugging along with some fun action scenes, but getting back into them can be tough. Think I’ll stop here and pick up the scene tomorrow over lunch. I tend to be able to concentrate better that way. Earlier today I was totally in the mode and looked up to see my lunch hour had ended. Then tonight I just can’t get into the groove again. It should come back to me tomorrow though, at least it better!

Word metrics, or see how close I am to completing Camp NaNo!? Less thank 7k! I’ve knocked out over 50k in the past four weeks, so I surely can eek out a few more thousand words, right?

What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You

We take a break for a little explanation of multiple dimensions in this story. We learn more about these terrible invaders, but that only leads to more questions. Four folks delve into the philosophy and repercussions of dealing with an invasion from another dimension and begin to understand that this is more than a series of isolated incidents. By now they’ve all had some sort of run-in with the creatures, and what they’re finding out only makes them more terrified.

Meanwhile Kate is having her own adventures. I’m just opening the scene for this, but I’m looking forward to the action. This is really going to be the major showdown of the book, so making sure all the pieces come together properly is my top #1 priority.

In other news, I found out about this amazing photographer, Kirsty Mitchell, who is doing fantasy themed shoots in a series called Wonderland. There’s an entire article about why she’s doing it, but it’s really making me itch to write some heavy-duty fantasy. Suzie’s novels are more YA horror sci-fi, a major genre change from the whimsical fantasy these photos inspire. Kirsty’s done a ton of photos, but these are some of my favorites.

Now I want to go back and work on Mr. Cloom’s Garden.

Drive-by update

Just a quick post tonight. Too tired to write much up. Still watching on Game of Thrones Season 2 also. Up to episode 4 now. It’s so difficult walking away when you know all the episodes are there waiting to be seen! Got some good news coming too, but I want to wait until I get more information before I share. 🙂

Snippet: Conrad and Dusty, always at odds with each other.

“Who knows what might happen if I took a day off, he just might burst into flames.”

Conrad groaned from the back seat.

“If I’m not stuck getting him out of trouble, I’m stuck in bodyguard duty.” She glanced up at the mirror again with a toothy grin. “Somebody has to cover his rear.”

“That’s enough!” Conrad roared. “Shut your trap until we’re back on the ground, Dusty.”
