Frightful Fables: Volume I

Frightful Fables Volume I
By: DC Phillips

Finished: 12/19/2020

This was a short collection of horror short stories, but there was so much wry humor! I really loved “You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide” with the flip of expectations. I think my favorite was “Patches” though. Who could say no to the kitties?

Overall each of these tales left a lasting impression with some truly wonderful twists that made me smile. I loved the inclusion of artwork to really set the mood for each piece too! Overall this was a fun read!

My Rating: 5/5 Stars!

I Never Meant to Start a Murder Cult

I Never Meant To Start A Murder Cult
By: Darrell Z. Grizzle

Finished: 12/18/2020

A series of short stories ranging from bizarre dead bodies to spectral entities in hospital windows. I never knew what to expect from one story to the next and it was fantastic. I loved how he embraced the weird, the unexplained, and the surreal.

Grizzle has a wide range in tone and time period. Some of these like “We Ride On The Wind” could easily have been expanded into a full-length novel, and I would be one of the first to pick up a copy.

I can’t wait to see what he does next!

My Rating: 5/5 Stars!

The Angry Woman

Check out the scary ghost story that got posted up for HWA’s Halloween Haunts today! I may or may not have been the author for it, and it may or may not be based on a real experience that my friends and I had in New Orleans years ago.

“The Angry Woman” by Marlena Frank

If you liked this piece, hopefully you’ll consider adding my upcoming YA dark fantasy novella, The She-Wolf of Kanta, to your To-Read list on Goodreads.

Every day in October, blog posts will be posted by horror authors on HWA’s blog. They’ll be showcasing their love for Halloween, maybe with a snippet from their novels or a giveaway or two. So if you dig scary stories, be sure to check back each day!

Happy Hauntings, friends.

Dead Man’s Hill

So while I was out of town last week, the latest issue of The Sirens Call Publications eZine got released!

Not only is this whole issue FREE to read, but my story, “Dead Man’s Hill”, featuring some entertaining zombies, is contained within.

You know you’re not ready for Halloween to leave just yet.

A Frightful Halloween Giveaway

halloweenhaunts2Today I’m over at HWA’s Halloween Haunts talking about one of the coolest and scariest places to go trick-or-treating as a child: Burke’s Circle. The neighborhood looked like it was plucked from a Halloween movie and planted just for us kids to enjoy. Almost every house was decked for Halloween and giving out candy, and each home you visited made you double check the doorways and watch the shadows.

Be sure to comment at the site to be entered to win a free physical copy of Not Your Average Monster Volume 2, which I’m proud to report still has a 5-star rating on Amazon. It features my own creature horror story, “Tiny Necks”, which I talk a little bit about over here: Outside Your Comfort Zone.
