Lucius: A Pregnant Wife Means a Lack of Sleep

The time is before the Prophecy, and a young Lucius Malfoy is sent to explore the disappearance of a Death Eater family. When he comes across their bodies, he calls on Severus to assist him. Together they have to figure out the mystery behind the murder, and deal with the revelation of the Prophecy – and how Lucius and Narcissa’s son might be involved.

This story’s coming along quite nicely! I’ve been pretty sick all day though, and it’ll probably be another week before I’m back to my regular non-sick self again. I’m taking plenty of antibiotics, but it’s amazing how I just get thoroughly wiped during the day sometimes. Too bad it has to happen around Camp NaNo though… I’m just glad it’s the weekend!

Lucius and Severus finish up their investigation, Lucius learns what it’s like to deal with a pregnant wife, and falls asleep on a chair with a glass of wine. (Pretty typical Lucius, if I do say!) Then Severus comes in with – OMG WTF BBQ news. Like he does. 😉

That was a hot little scene right there! Lucius and Severus are examining the corpses, and of course, it turns into a fight/make-out session. Needless to say, Severus loses the argument, and ends up making not just one agreement, but two. I’m coming along nicely on the story, though I’m not even out of the first chapter yet! *grin* I guess my story’s going to be a long one at this rate.

Oh and this is one of the fics I’m working on for Camp NaNoWriMo this summer, and you can check out my progress over here. The site’s still a little rough around the edges, but I don’t care. Writing motivation is still there, regardless of the details.

And Rapunzel’s Daughters came out today! *cheer* You definitely should take a peek inside at the Amazon link and take a look at some of the tales & beautiful pictures. If you’re interested in purchasing one, I recommend getting it from the publisher. That way more of your cash goes to the actual publishers, artists, and writers instead of a percentage going to the corporation.

Camp NaNo!!!

Plug for an LJ comm, where I’m sure I’ll be spending a lot of time in the next month or two.

Camp NaNoWriMo is an official event being sponsored by those who bring us NaNoWriMo every November. Starting on July 1st, 2011, we’re being challenged to write two 50,000 word novels for the months of July and August. For anyone who says November is a bad time of the year to try to write a novel, this is your chance to join in and participate in NaNo! Come join us at the discussion community, !

What I’ll be writing on…

1) luciusbigbang I’m about 4k into it at the moment, and even though they’ve got multiple word limits, my story’s going to be detailed. So it’ll probably be far longer than that. This is my first priority, since the rough draft is due at the start of September. *Gulp!*

2) zombiebang I can’t help it, I had this funny zombie story pop in my head with Voldemort and Regulus, and yeah. It’ll be short & fun though!

3) Secrets of Leekston Ie. my book. Second in the series, even though the first book’s initial reviewers are requesting a Chapter 1 rewrite. The other day I was talking about how difficult it was to get that first chapter rewritten, mostly cause I’ve gotten used to thinking that’s how the book starts. Hopefully lots of writing will get my plot-gears primed for coming up with something new and eye-catching for the scene. =)

What are you guys working on??

First Chapters are Difficult!

Coming along quite nicely! I’m really enjoying the forensic investigation Lucius and Severus are having to do here. I like to think that they had a lot of work like this to do earlier on in their career, when the Death Eaters were more of a budding organization and not quite the killing machine they become. I’m coming along with a decent outline as I go too, so the story is slowly pulling together — like that werewolf from The Monster Squad!

Sorry, couldn’t resist! Jeez that is such a fun show! Used to love it as a kid, and it’s still campy fun. =)

This story is probably going to be way longer than the 10k minimum requirement, but I’m going to stick with my deadline for the end of July. I still have to get my beta reader to peruse it for me, so I have to make sure she has ample time. And I’m still planning on signing up for the Zombie (Big) Bang. With only a 5k word requirement, surely I can get that without too much sweat!

It’s nice to have some fanfiction to get me away from the editing headache of my novel for a bit. I realized I’ll need to rewrite the entire first chapter, and every time I’ve been trying to think of how to do it, I come to a block. I’m anxious to continue the series, but I know that polishing the first book is a big requirement to getting the second book really going. I don’t want to rush it. I want the first book to have a nice feel and a good flow. Not to mention that if I change facts around, then there’s less to change for the following books. So fanfiction writing is really helping me keep my writing flow running smoothly while I think on how to revise. Why are first chapters so difficult?

Over the last couple of weeks I decided that I didn’t like the plot I was using for my Lucius Big Bang. It was going to be awkward, difficult to explain at times, and had too many other characters in it that might take away from Lucius’ spotlight. It’s a Lucius Malfoy Big Bang after all. He should be the main character!

So I’ve come up with this plot instead, and I must say I’m enjoying it way better so far. The details of the ending aren’t quite flushed out as well as I might like, but it’s coming along nicely. And do you know what’s funny? I’ve already started brainstorming a Hogwarts-related piece starring Regulus Black for the Zombie Big Bang. Which I wasn’t even considering writing! Oy, so many awesome ideas! I just need to get my butt in gear and start writing more! (Ie. creating more time to write instead of playing video games.)

Any pointers on how to create time to write?
